Great meeting about SB2004 with State Senator Laura Ellman of the 21st State Senate District (which covers much of Naperville, Lisle, Butterfield, Glen Ellyn, and Lombard)! Lots of positive energy around local RCV in our State Senate! We are working hard to add co-sponsors to SB2004 so that local IL municipalities can implement RCV referendums if they choose to do so!

3 cities have passed RCV in IL, but implementation is stalled by legal uncertainty. With as many as 18 candidates in the Democratic primary for IL-09, it is clear that Illinois desperately needs ranked choice voting for its primary elections. This race could theoretically be won by a candidate with as little as 5.56% of the vote due to vote splitting. RCV would require the winning candidate to have a true majority of >50%, all while mitigating the problems of "spoilers" and "vote splitting."
