In Seattle, I stayed in International District and biked to Fred Hutch for the conference. On the last day of the conference, we decided to have hot pot at 6:30 pm and I had about 2 hours to kill. So I did a little bike ride. Unfamiliar with this area, I took a wrong turn and ended up riding many hilly miles to get to the other side of the I-5. This is how freeways divide neighborhoods. I visited the Pike-Pine corridor of Capitol Hill/Broadway. That's an interesting, queer neighborhood. I visited the Elliot Bay Book Company and had ice cream. I found two shops in this neighborhood not accepting tip, citing the racist origin of tipping. One may seem random and quirky, but two probably says something about the politics of this neighborhood. This is at the alley where Tailwind Cafe is located. I also found two bike cafes (I mean bike-themed coffee shops that also sell bike-related items, not bike repair co-ops) in this neighborhood, which probably also says something about its character. #seattle #streetphotography #reflection #goldenhour #darktable

I finally got around to going through the photos of the solar eclipse, and I’m happy with them. In hindsight, I always think I could have gotten even more out of them. A different location, better foregrounds? In any case, it was very challenging to photograph the solar eclipse β€œdifferently” than how it’s usually seen. I wanted to integrate it into the landscape and not just capture it as a close-up. What do you think of the results? Since I don’t like to post a lot of photos at once, I’ll be sharing the rest of the photos bit by bit over the next few days πŸ™‚
