@dillyd @Michigander did we ever decide on a hashtag?
Wintry days come and go- a couple of melting days, then fresh snowfall and a return to cold, rinse and repeat.. the time of growth and flowers is still rather distant, but these days have their own beauty.. Moose tracks: they were checking Castilleja seed heads for edibility- conclusion: Nope!

This tree was holding the smoldering, smoky sun in its branches on Friday. I chose a red hot tie and a cool blue shirt on this mild February day. The final day of February will bring both winter and spring to Montana on Saturday. I'll have your 7-day weather forecast tonight!

Late February and the view from the southern end of Hendon Promenade/Seawall on the ramp that leads down onto the beach.
I'm sure the seawall was constructed in the 1970's to halt erosion (there is a railway line into the Port of Sunderland just a short distance from the beach).
South from this point there are no coastal defences until Seaham on the Durham Heritage Coast.
The promontory in the distance is Salterfen Rocks, after which is Ryhope Nook.
Just around that corner is a feature known as 'Jane Jiveson's Rock' (it is marked on OS maps) and it serves as a marker for the rate of coastal erosion.
A century ago, this rocky outcrop was actually connected to the cliffs.

The first signs of #spring are here... I greatly enjoyed my nature walk earlier today, it's been a while 🌱🏵️❇️💠

Heading towards the last weekend of February and it has been good to get out and about as the weather begins to pick up from all the miserable stuff thrown our way since the start of the New Year.
I was busy composing a view of a long straight woodland path that heads down towards the Durham Heritage Coast this week when I heard approaching footsteps from behind.
A gentleman passed by wearing a bright red jacket which added a great splash of contrasting colour to the woodland hues – perfect timing!
Quite looking forward to saying hello to March, the month of the spring equinox, the clocks going forward and the longer hours of daylight.

OTD 2019

We decided to spend our birthdays in Iceland that year.
My partner's is the day before mine, so this is what we did on my birthday that year.

Pic 1: From Varmahlíð, after a good breakfast we started out along Skagafjörður

Pic 2: Through Tröllaskagi to Öxnadalur and lovely Hraundrangi

Pic 3: Arriving in Akureyri, the traffic lights love us

Pic 4: Akureyri from the opposite side of Eyjafjörður, with Hlíðarfjall above

Perfect! 🎉

Not out of the winter weather woods just yet, but I'm feeling all the better for the brighter, drier spells of these last few days (I'm even contemplating giving the lawn its first short, back and side of the year!).
The higher angle of the midday sun is already really noticeable in the way it lights up the landscape, like here at Roker Marina in Sunderland, NE England.
Looking forward to the arrival of March and hopefully a genuine first taste of the season of spring.
