this puts to rest theories they are juveniles of some other type of #dove

the common ground dove is 6-7 in long. these are maybe 4, 5 tops. i couldn't find any breed of #doves that small as adults. but these are paired & making nests, so they are adults

Taken at the quarry yesterday. Quite happy with how some of them turned out. I really enjoy some of the textures present in the industrial environment when taken in black and white even with simple things like railings and gravel.

Camera used is E-M1 Mark II with Rokinon 300mm F6.3 Reflex/Mirror lens.

oh, this is interesting. #Loops only handles up to 40mb. i was informed it could take up to 80, & it will compress it. but when i uploaded a 78mb file, then this 42mb file, they both failed as too big. but it looks like this uploaded to #Mastodon just fine💙

I know the title’s a corny joke—but it’s the first thing that came to mind when I saw this image of a mourning dove (Zenaida macroura). They get their name from that soft, sorrowful call—“whooo, whooo…”—that drifts through the air like a gentle sigh. I’m often outside in the early hours, listening to mourning doves in the morning. This rock dove (Columba livia) is a frequent visitor to my backyard, easily recognized by the distinctive white epaulettes on his shoulders. Surely, he must be some kind of officer, don’t you think? In this image, he seems to be staring me down, likely keeping watch while the others feed.
