I usually like to use current photos for #ArtAdventCalendar (Day 09) but yesterday I was only out long enough to cut a little wood + too lazy to take photos of decorations..lol So! as we approach Winter Solstice, views from the opposite side of the year as we approached Summer Solstice. I chose shots with a lot of shadow as a reminder that there always needs to be a balance between Light + Dark #animist #pagan #summer #florespondence #Bloomscrolling #butterfly #inverts #NativePlants #pollinators

After a week of mostly cold (for SE TX), wet, cloudy weather, the sun came out yesterday and with that I was surprised again to see some late season #butterflies, mostly #monarchs and long-tailed skippers, swarming the main blooming plant remaining in the front #garden, the mistflower. Made for this one brief encounter. Sharing is caring.

I thought all the #monarchs were long gone, migrated off to parts further south - in fact there’s very little butterfly activity in the garden right now as you’d expect in late November - so I was surprised to find this straggler visiting the mistflower in the front #garden bed earlier this week.

If thanks could be given non-stop
It would still be insufficient to what some deserve
Thank you.

Novembergrauauflockerungsbild

Eins aus einer 30-minütigen Session mit minütlich immer spektakuläreren Sonnenuntergangsfarben, bei denen ich partout nicht weiß, welches mir am besten gefällt. Das hier liegt aber ziemlich weit vorn.

Orange in the Air

This morning, a Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) fluttered through my backyard, its wings flickering like stained glass in motion.

An Orange Sulphur #butterfly with very tattered & torn wings visiting lantana flowers in the front #garden. This butterfly has really been through some sh*t, but it’s still going.

Ein etwas anderes Herbstblatt gesichtet - und unglaublich wieviele Leute den nicht gesehen haben als sie an ihn vorbei liefen...
Spotted a slightly different autumn leaf—and it's unbelievable how many people didn't see it as they walked past...
Admiral (Vanessa atalanta)

Note the left wing on this Gulf Fritillary, the big gap near the body, wing torn almost completely off. Yet this battered #butterfly seemed to be managing fine despite that, flittering around the zinnias. They just keep going till they can’t.

I live in north #Florida and Gulf Fritillaries are fortunately common. Always enjoy watching them... but my favorite is the "Zebra Longwing"... our official state insect!

I’ve been seeing a number of these long-tailed skipper #butterflies in my front #garden the past week or so. Seems to be consistent with previous years - more of them around in early autumn. Love their blueish coloring but they’re difficult to photograph since they tend to alight only briefly & flit away so fast.

I really like this butterfly graphium sarpedon, which commonly seen in central Tokyo, not often talked about by butterfly enthusiasts, or many people don't even notice it because it flies so hurriedly (they are slowing down a bit in autumn, so that I could take some photos) #nature #butterfly

uploading a few more graphium sarpedon... butterfly season would be over soon, but the weather was nice today, so I could take a bunch of photos of them #nature #butterfly

Exciting day today! The lone Mexican Sunflower plant (a volunteer that started very late) had 2 Monarch Butterfly visitors today. The plant flowered too late for the hummingbirds and probably too late (so I thought) for the Monarchs.

I think both of these photos are of the same individual. (More about the flower in a comment.)
