Edit: I was just made aware, that this is not his original voice. I totally fell for ai slop.

The text is still quite good, though.

I am definitely not part of the Richard Feynman Fandom, but one has to admit, he had a fabulous way of teaching.

Here is a prime example: about the nature of time (19 minutes).

Despite not having learned anything really new, I found it pretty eye-opening in its simplicity and clarity.

Today in the classroom:

First year chem will do Lewis diagrams for ionic compounds. They'll draw neutral atoms and then use arrows to show which atoms lose electrons and where they go. This will baby-step us into writing ionic compound formulas.

Second year chem is wrestling with their first lab report for the semester over their Charles' Law data. They'll have today to finish graphs and submit. We'll do partial pressures next week & collect gas over water.

During my 10 years teaching 16 to 19 year olds we constantly heard we should teach current industry skills, such as Flash actionscript and Dreamweaver.

We preferred to teach more generic skills such as programming principles and HTML. I think we made the right decision.

My Wildlife Techniques class is always a favorite to teach. I wanted to share some semester highlights over the next few days from my students’ trail camera projects. I’ll start with this very round American Black Bear (Ursus americanus). Such a nice close up!

When you think about high school or (US/Canadian) college gen. ed. history classes, what kind of content and teaching either engaged you or bored you?

📜🦁 The University of #Aberdeen has digitized the 13th-century Aberdeen Bestiary, one of the most lavish #medieval illuminated manuscripts featuring real and mythological #animals with moral teachings. Once owned by Henry VIII, this educational text served as a #teaching tool combining natural #history with #Christian moral lessons through detailed #illustrations of creatures from #lions to phoenixes.

¡Hola!

Learning is a process of trying, experimenting, imitating, practicing, and asking lots and lots of questions.

That's why children are -- before we train them out of it -- such great learners.

We, too, can gain that back by re-learning what we have been trained out of: experimenting, imitating, practicing, and asking lots and lots of questions.

Fediverse! I’m trying to pull together a small library for my high school students. My hope is to find adult / young adult books they might enjoy and read for fun. What I need are book donations (if you want to pass along novels you love) and recommendations. I don’t need monetary support at this time. If you HAVE books to spare, message me and I’ll give the school address. Feel free to boost. #teaching #bookstodon

Hi Mastodon, I'm excited to join this community! Professionally, I'm interested in #highereducation and #teaching and #learning. Personally, I am interested in #scifi and #comics. I look forward to connecting! (and if you have any good Mastodon tips, let me know! I'm figuring this out!).

I like to informally ask my students about halfway through a course what they like and don't like about the course. It doesn't take much more than 10 minutes: I give groups of 3-4 students a single piece of A4 that I divide into four sections (positives, negatives, suggestions for improvement, other comments).

It's always insightful. And not just for me: They often realise that they disagree on some things (e.g., too much or too little of something, too slow or too fast, etc.) and they frequently suggest things that are easy to implement, but can really improve things. And so I've just set up a collaborative document to collect useful shortcuts and a glossary of important #Rstats functions which I've called "Class Cheatsheet". #HigherEd #teaching

I found this posted on the wall at the university where I teach. I love when students have a weird sense of humor like this.
