A view of Moel Ddu over the Glaslyn Estuary today.

Moel Ddu translates to Black Hill* and as you can see in the photo it really takes its name seriously. It's a bizarre trick of nature that when the sun is shining and every other peak is gleaming with light, Moel Ddu will still look black as night. It's like a goth mountain and I definitely have a soft spot for it.

*technically 'bald black hill' and it's actually a mountain

Auf den #Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) hoch war der Aufstieg genauso wahnsinnig beeindruckend wie das Ziel. Hier waren wir gerade erst losgelaufen und wussten noch nicht, dass wir spΓ€ter die Wolkendecke durchbrechen und fast einen Sonnenbrand kriegen wΓΌrden.

I'm closing out #MonochromeMarch exactly where I began it: with an open road.

I set myself a 'monochrome only' goal for my #365project this month and it has been challenging and rewarding. I'll definitely be looking at shots with a different perspective from now on.

The Miners' Track at #GoldenHour on #MoelwynMawr.

Coming down the Miners' Track as the sun was setting is an experience I'll never forget... Mainly because it was the last leg of an arduous, stupid day which saw Aled and I get (somewhat) lost in the mountains of #Eryri (again - it's kind of our thing).

We had gone up Cnicht which is straightforward as can be and then thought it would be "fun" to traverse to Moelwyn Mawr but without any actual knowledge of the route. And so it was, on that windy day in March, that we made our way haphazardly through sodden, boggy fields for hours β€” our boots soaked through and our feet freezing β€” to finally and very gratefully find solid ground once again on the Miners' Track as the sun was going down.

But Lula and Maisie loved every minute of it.

I'm not used to very high mountains, but even the smaller ones can be stunning. Here's Yr Wyddfa (aka #Snowdon), captured well below the summit at 3,560 ft (1,085 m). Glancing down at the #cloudCover was an unforgettable experience.
