Venice is haunted by a giant's skeleton. A 7-foot-tall man once worked as a bell ringer at St Mark's Campanile, a high tower on St Mark's Square. The giant was offered money by a scientist if he would leave him his bones when he died. The giant, estimating the scientist would die first, agreed, but the giant died shortly afterwards. His skeleton was placed in the Natural History Museum, where it can still be seen today. Every night, however, the skeleton is said to leave the museum and walk to St Mark's to try to ring the bells. On his way back, the giant begs coins from passers-by, in the hope he can buy his bones back and have a proper burial. #folklore #history #ghosts #paranormal #mythology #gothic #weird #Venice #death

#tbt: Pictures of some #portraits seen in the halls of Shree Sodhe Matha in #Udupi #India (Jan. 18, 2025)

The first two portray ("horse face"); the other two depict Waraaha (a boar). Both are forms of Lord Wishnu. #ama

PS: These are some of the finest modern portrayals I've seen. Also rare style for the setting they're in. Uneven ambience made taking pictures hard but I'm pleased with how they turned out. â˜ș

Important #question. Should a #Manticore have wings? In #DungeonsAndDragons it was always depicted with wings. In the original #Persian #myths, the Mard-khar (lit. "man-eater") does not have wings. But I visited the #BritishMuseum last week and on one of the plaster casts from #Persepolis there is a creature that looks like a scorpion-tailed lion with wings.

These spherical stones are called Moeraki Boulders, they lay on a beach in South Island in New Zealand. There is a lot of science behind explanation of how they were created but please forgive me, I don’t understand it 😅 What’s amazing? They are milions of years old. When you’re there, when you look at them, you just think they are some stones but you wouldn’t think they are milions of years old. Just some stones, huh?
