My wife and I woke up long before dawn, the chill of the morning air nipping at our skin. We hiked in the dark, the only light coming from our headlamps, our hearts racing with excitement—and a little bit of nerves—hoping that there were no bears lurking nearby. With every step, we felt the silence of the forest surrounding us, broken only by the occasional rustle in the trees. We finally reached the summit of Oberg Mountain just as the first light of day began to paint the sky. And then, like magic, the world around us exploded in color.
