Oh, question! Does anyone have a good way of displaying maps on walls?
They're not special old ones or anything, just mass produced ones. (I try and buy maps wherever we go, as a cool memory and learning thing.) But like... the Yosemite map is very big and I don't want to use blutac 'cause it'll damage it over time.
And I also don't want to spend a lot of money on frames.

One of the things being developed in the background is to focus more on public transport and less on cars.
The blue lines are trams, trains, metros etc, replacing the yellow highways.
The map probably changes some more, but the idea is there.
More to come soon.
Drain the oceans and flood the land with this sea level simulator
You’ve surely seen interactive maps showing the effects of the sea level rising, but Sliding Shores makes a game of it: you get a beautifully-rendered globe and a slider to raise or lower the oceans. There’s a load of presets, from “oceans drained” to “drown Everest,” a feat not even Waterworld managed.
Here’s the actual tool: Sliding Shores — Interactive Sea Level Rise Simulator by Richard Franklin.
(It had me at “Boil off 100 feet and we get Doggerland back!” Want to more about why that’s cool? It’s a real-life Atlantis, kinda sorta! Check out this backgrounder.)

“StreetComplete on iOS - public beta”!
OMG! This is great news! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

After several years of migration to multiplatform, it is finally done! 🎉 Time to party! But also, to test! I expect many small and big things to be found during the beta. The earlier they are found, the shinier the public release will be 😗🤌✨.OpenStreetMap Community Forum

The results show up on the map, all at once, except corporations and chains, they get a grey dot with no information, because they are not supported.
It comes in 5 languages, so before using amazon, give it a try in your area, you might like it. 😊
Shares are welcome, thanks.

🧵 1/2: I recently saw this vintage #Qantas poster with a unique “flower” map projection centered on #Sydney (1st image). I love how it almost neatly divides the four largest continents (Eurasia, Africa, and North and South America) into the 4 “petals”.
I sorta became obsessed and wondered if I could recreate it using my mapmaking and coding skills.
Some days of tinkering, coding, and mathing later, I think I managed to do it! (2nd image) 🎉🗺️

I've added some examples of #drawings from my world. The question is, should I put them in the story? 🤔 And if yes how? Let me know what you think.

"The worst-case scenarios in the IPCC report project temperatures by the 22nd century that last prevailed in the Early Eocene, reversing 50 million years of cooler climates in the space of two centuries.
[…] The rise of large-scale, urbanized agrarian societies began with the shift to the stable climate of the Holocene ∼12,000 y ago. Since then, human population density peaked within a narrow climatic envelope with a mean annual average temperature of ∼13 °C. Even today, the most economically productive centers of human activity are concentrated in those areas."

I want #OpenStreetMap to have more info on “queer friendly” signs for places that aren't 100% LGBTQ orientated.
So I want to extend the `lgbtq:signed` tag, to allow us to mark all this.
What do you think of this idea? Can you map with this?

I abuse the word "'genius". Way too flippant with the term, and I'm probably not alone.
And then a map takes me back to someone like Alexander Von Humboldt, and I remember when it should be applied.
We think of his work on the geography of plants and isothermal maps. But he did a lot for anchoring understanding of the Southwest.
Here his great work that influenced Pike and Arrowsmith. His 1811 map Mexique
