Got #WebP to load in #Inkscape!
I thought for a long time that Inkscape simply doesn't support WebP, but that isn't true. The problem, rather, was that the gdk-pixbuf loader for WebP was not installed on my system.
People using #Debian or another distro based on it need to install the package named “webp-pixbuf-loader”. That's all you need to do; merely installing the package will enable WebP support in Inkscape.
This should also enable WebP thumbnails in #Nautilus, if you use #Gnome.
Save the date! The next #BoilingTheOcean will be November 29 and 30, right after the @PrototypeFund demo day (November 28).
More details to follow, but probably we'll focus on Reflection / @p2panda / local-first since Sam and @jsparber will be in town 😀
Ja, wir brauchen eine leichte Alternative zu #LibreOffice, die sich in den #Gnome-Desktop einbindet. Wir brauchen aber keinen neuen Office-Kern, sondern nur eine schlanke Benutzeroberfläche. #LibreOfficeKit ist schlank und extrem leistungsfähig. Unmittelbar werde alle Dokumente korrekt angezeigt, die von @LibreOfficeDE unterstützt werden. Die @tdforg bereits einen Prototyp "#GTK Tiled Viewer" dev.blog.documentfoundation.or… entwickelt. So geht es! Weiter damit!

Fedora Workstation 43 brings a few niceties like @gnome 49 and a new video player, but also an important change.

Fedora 43 macht den neuen Installer zum Standard und fegt X11 aus dem Desktop: Die Hauptversionen mit Gnome 49 und KDE Plasma 6.5 arbeiten nur noch mit Wayland.
Gestern mal kurz #kubuntu unter den Fingern gehabt.
Ich empfand den #Desktop, Desktopp-Menü, #Dolphin und das Einhängen eines #USB-Sticks kompliziert und unübersichtlich, so ähnlich wie bei Windows.
#Gnome erscheint mir dagegen aufgeräumt und simpel in der Bedienung.
Ist natürlich persöhnliche Geschmackssache.

#GNOME #Nautilus (="Files"): Is it really impossible to map a keyboard shortcut such that my custom shell script is called with the currently selected file(s) as command line parameters? 🤔
I can only put them in ~/.local/share/nautilus/scripts/ but then I have to use the mouse and its context menu.
I'd prefer keyboard shortcuts though.
