Good morning, Glasgow. For the next few days, the sun will rise directly behind the Squinty Bridge, making for some great photo opportunities - provided the skies remain relatively cloud free!

The new statue of Nelson Mandela in central Glasgow, installed and waiting to be unveiled next week. It's been sited so Mandela looks, hand raised, towards the former Glasgow Stock Exchange (just visible in the background), which was home to a South African Consulate during the Apartheid era.

In 1981, the then-imprisoned Mandela was given the freedom of the city (with Glasgow being the first city in the world to give him this honour).

A old pavement light on Radnor Street in the Finnieston area of Glasgow. Pavement lights used prisms to bring natural light into otherwise dark, sub-street cellars.

This one was made by the British Luxfer Prism Syndicate Limited, which was established in 1898 under licence from the American company Luxfer, which at one point employed a young Frank Lloyd Wright to design its prisms.

The mornings might be getting darker as we head into the heart of autumn, but it does mean my first dog walk of the day now coincides with the dawn chorus, so it's accompanied by bird song, produced by the likes of this little robin perched on a road sign.

210. Ghost Sign

🧠 Another one from the Scottie Dog trail. I wanted to frame this one with the arch.

⭐ I like the colours in the sign an how the surrounding tones work with it.

➡️ I wanted to include either the whole street sign or none of it. None of the cropping options worked so it's partly in.

I was a bit surprised to spot what looks like a young hooded crow on Glasgow Green during today's morning run. More commonly found in the highlands and in Ireland, this is the first one I ever remember seeing in Glasgow. It was mixed in with a flock of the more usual carrion crows.

Living in Glasgow can sometimes have its challenges, especially at this time of year when the weather can be rather wet and the nights are drawing in, but then you come across something like this on Park Drive in the Woodlands area of the city and you're reminded why you'd never want to live anywhere else!

The Atmosphere of My High School Exams in Gaza. ❗

Last year, I finished high school amid war, displacement, famine, and bombardment. During a ceasefire, my school held in-person exams to ensure fair results. I contracted Hepatitis A during the exam period, yet still graduated with 98%, ranking among the highest-performing students across Palestinian Al-Azhar Institutes and earning the highest Physics mark in Gaza that year. Now I’m raising funds to change this reality and reach University of Glasgow. If you're able to help, the link is in my bio. Sharing this campaign could help me reach someone who can.

Your donation will do more than help me attend university. It will give me the chance to build a career in technology, support my family, and create a future beyond war.

Curled round the top of a hill, this Celtic Dragon watches over Irvine Beach on the Clyde Coast about 45 minutes drive from Glasgow. Designed by Anthony Vogt and sculpted by Roy Fitzsimmons, Irvine's one-time Artist-in-Residence, it was created in the 1980s using recycled red sandstone. At six feet high and 120 feet long, it's one of the largest sculptures of its type on Scotland, and visiting it makes for a great trip out from the city on sunny days like today.

Love the additon of this putto at the base of a chimney stack on the 1913 Glasgow and West of Scotland College of Domestic Science, AKA, The Dough School. It's the little details like this that really make Glasgow's traditonal architecture something special.

Love the bollards decorated with mosaics scattered throughout the Woodlands area of Glasgow. Created as part of the Glasgow 1999 project and designed by local kids, each one is different. This one on Baliol Street made me chuckle due to the time chosen to display on the clock: 3pm is the end of the school day for many kids across the city, and was clearly this designer's favourite time of day!

Another short recuperation walk with dad, around Hogganfield Loch.

Slow pace, but good to be out & taking some photos. Spotted a Goldeneye duck flickr.com/photos/woolamaloo_g…

Saw a bloke having a "Glesga Picnic" by the water: tin of Tennant's lager, bottle of the vile Buckfast, and a ciggie! Class!

93. Science Centre

🧠 I thought the tower looked good framed by the two other structures, especially with the light and shade contrast.

⭐I footered about quite a bit with the shadow level and sky contrast and am happy with the look.

➡️Should more of the building on the left have been brightened up...?

89. St. Bride's

🧠 I'm possibly being a bit repetitive with another 'leading lines with a nice building at the end' shot 😊. I do love this view though.

⭐ Because of the shaded area in the centre, it looks like the church is at the end of the path but there's actually a little park there, then it's up the stairs and across a busy road to get to the church.

➡️ Maybe should have tried to avoid the intense shadow...

83. Light Trails

🧠 I was hoping to get a bus but got fed up waiting so made do with the cars passing by, as well as getting J to walk back and forward!

⭐I'm pleased with the car light streaks and repeated wheel alloy pattern! I'm also quite chuffed the rest is so crisp. I had the camera hanging round my neck and resting against my abdomen with the wee screen popped up to use instead of the viewfinder.

➡️ It's maybe a bit busy. I cut off the top of the tunnel which had given surround framing because there was too much that was distracting. I think if I'd captured a bus the full height could've worked.

82. Sunburst

🧠 Glasgow Uni looked great in the setting sun. I really wanted to try some 'breaking the rules' effects by taking shots facing the sun (mirrorless cameras have electronic viewfinders so I wasn't risking eye damage!)

⭐I love the rays coming from the sunlight disappearing behind the buildings. I also like the purple and green streaks to the left (I'm sure they've a technical name I don't know).

➡️ I took this quickly and had to rotate it so the lamppost was straight but that cut off more of the building at the left than I wanted.

Glasgow is a proper city. A great place to visit, I went to Uni there, worked on the buses for a year. Really saw the place. I was a conductor, never had a spot of bother on the bus, but then again I didn't go about asking people for money. Here's some fab graffitti. #Scotland #Glasgow #Graffitti #Art #Photography

I love these Heath Robinsonesque extensions you occasionally see bolted to an upper floor of the rear facade of Glasgow buildings. You can just imagine the conversation with the builder:

'And we'll knock through this wall to give you more space in the bathroom.'
'But that's the outside wall ...'
'So?'
'This is a 2nd floor flat ...'
'Nae bother!'

72. Waterfall

🧠 This was my first time properly trying motion blurred water. I thought the setting was perfect for it.

⭐I'm pleased with how crisp the still elements are with the slow shutter speed needed to blur the water.

➡️ I want to try to get a smoother look to moving water - might be better on a shallow river.

This morning I saw my first daffodils of the year in Victoria Park in Glasgow. It might seem unlikely, but today's popularity of these Spring blooms is all down to a man called Peter Barr. Born in Govan in 1826, Barr became enchanted with the yellow blooms, which had fallen out of fashion in the Victorian era, partly due to the Queen's dislike of them.
