Whew! I knew this was going to be a tricky replanting and it was but went more smoothly than I'd expected. This mini bog started out in 2023 as a random throwing things together with different Sundew seed stalks, moss and some Butterworts in a Tupperware-type container using coconut coir as the growing medium and I actually didn't expect it to survive. It seemed to (mostly) do okay and it was time to move it to a larger container.

Another highlight today, still small but growing fairly well: Drosera gigantea! It earns its name when mature, making many-branching almost treelike growth exceeding 3 feet tall, and inch-plus tubers that can be nearly 3 feet below ground. One of the few tuberous species that also really prefers the soil staying slightly moist in dormancy, one reason the tuber goes so deep as to avoid desiccation.

The red blush and white-flower forms of Pinguicula gigabytes bloomed simultaneously again!
The flowers may have been butchered after this photo…but only in the service of crossing them and also putting pollen on several other things at the same time :3

The two repot-and-trim plants tonight: Nepenthes ventricosa x talangensis HC C (showing two lowers and an upper) and (ventricosa x sibuyanensis) x (spathulata x mira). Both have remained quite small trap-wise, and the second has yet to vine, preferring to switch between basals (of which several were cut).

Much in need of a repot…but despite that, discovered the largest pitcher yet on Nepenthes hamiguitanensis!
This wild Philippines species is thought to have originated as a natural hybrid at one point, possibly between micramphora and peltata, but is fully stabilized now. These chunky lowers will eventually give way to spectacular, often ghostly pale or highly mottled flaring uppers of decent size.

Flash at night does weird things to exposure…but repotted Nepenthes ‘Helen’ x spectabilis PB, HCA last night. My big female of the three clones I managed to retain, it is a bit like a spectabilis on steroids when in good soil. Chunky lower pitchers with striped peristomes that additionally darken to black on the outer rim, and slim uppers with more flared lips that really stand out. Here’s hoping it settles back in quick…and that the cuttings I took also root well (bonus: it’s a fertile female and has made several snazzy hybrids for me).
